   Greetings! A bit about us!

My name is Stacey, or Doe, as my friends know me. My fiance is Drew, a hulk of a guy, sure! Then comes Darren, <17>, Mikey < 14> and Shannon <5>. Our farm, Velvet Greene Farm, is located in Summersville, Missouri. It has 40 acres of gently rolling land, some woods, and a couple of barns, one built in 1938. We have recently started aquirein so many animals, we can't list them all now!! We have goats, horses, chickens, ducks, bunnies dogs and cats. Soon we will have turkeys, cattle and a milk cow, if all goes well! We just love our little farm! Our goal is to be somewhat self sufficent. we would like to raise most of our own foods, as well as enjoy the land and animals we have, spending more time with our family here. It's alot to learn, but we're getting there, slow but sure!

       A dream come true

Buying our farm was a dream I'v had since I can remember. While a teen, I would plan for sustainable living situations, and my friends and I would discuss what we'd do, but it didn't seem to materialize untill last year, June 2004, when life just was too busy, it was crushing us..... we had a thought... what about the country? It's quiet, people are friendly, honest, hard working. Children grow up in a natural environment, mayhaps we should check into this deeper.

Within the month, plans were in full swing. Research of places to check out, how to raise farm animals, grow gardens, different styles of energy efficient homes, weather, jobs , schools... all were researched as we prepared our Florida home for sale. Then... Hurricanes hit. We got hit by 3 of the 4 in 2004, which slowed our remodeling down a bit. We traveled to different states, checking out land, homes, communities. Finally, by spring of 2005, we had our home up for sale, and it was under contract within the week... so we went searching for our new home in  Missouri, the place we found best suited us!

Velvet Greene Farm came to us last, after 30 or more homes, we were ready to head home, bummed we hadn't found " the" right place. We found an extra $100 bill in the visor, and thought it was luck. While driving towards home, we stopped at one last realitor, asked if they had some properties we saw in their adds to look at quick before we left. They were all sold, but they had others! If only we could stay one more day to look at them on the morrow.... :::smiles::: The $100 bill..... so, we stayed, it was a sign! The next morning, after lookin at another three houses, it was almost time for us to leave, and startin to get bummed again, we drove to the last house.

At first, we weren't sure. It was a quaint Berm home, but ye couldn't quite see the property from where we parked. We looked inside, and the kitchen was huge!! The pantry was to die for!!  The bedrooms were a nice size, and it was a nice cozy set up! Next, off to look at the barns and the property. As we walked up the drive to the barns, we got our first view of the property. Beautiful! Peaceful! Gently rolling fields, bordered by lush woods. The old stone based barn had wood and fenced pens, and a cute little chicken coop built into the side! I picked up a puppy that was with a litter near the newer barn, and walked to the old barn. Drew opened the doors, and I climbed up into the barn. As I turned to talk to Drew, I gazed out over the hay feild and was caught up in the timeless beauty that was the country! It was like looking at a post card.

" This is home, Drew" I said, hugging the puppy. He asked " are you sure?" " yep... this is home." Unfortunately, I had to leave the puppy, but after some ups and downs of sellin and buying, we finally moved into our home this past July. My heart and soul are full of joy and peace. This is a dream come true.
